PhD Student
Bernardo Tobar joined the Barile Lab in April 2025 as a visiting Ph.D. student from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he is pursuing a doctorate in Engineering Sciences with a specialization in Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering. His research focuses on the extraction and characterization of plant-based mucilage to develop natural edible coatings that enhance the shelf life of food products. He has extensive experience in university teaching, having served as a teaching assistant since his undergraduate years and later as a senior TA in engineering and food science courses. He has also led applied research projects focused on prototype development tested in real production environments.
Bernardo is co-founder and operations manager of Tobar Pérez y Compañía Spa, a Chilean company dedicated to food innovation and sustainable gastronomy.
